Ok, this is what I've found so far:
SEO your site --->no dead links, meta tag check any will do(as a guide)
check your word content, allot of pic few words is a bad thing. If you don't know the basics just get a good seo program, again just as a guide. Research your keyword and build your content around that in your pages. Make your code clean,(in your editor keep code tight, no gaps from line to line)good practice anyway. Gear toward Google, and you'll be in great shape for yahoo.
This is kinda of an outline, little more in depth, but a good start.
THE REAL DEAL : pay to get included in Yahoo directory!!!!
P.S. Don't use the submitting program, Few links the engines will find you and index you..

Webtime, where did you get that load of old twaddle from We are talking about a scripted directory here, you are talking about general SEO stuff. Can you show any proof of these tactics working?

SEO your site --->no dead links,
I agree broken links will score you down.
-----------
meta tag check any will do(as a guide)
All you have to worry about is the page title, and the Meta Description. Make sure your meta descriptions are different for each page
-----------
check your word content, allot of pic few words is a bad thing.
Agreed, but yu CAN get a graphic site to rank with some bloody hard work (it is just dumb to try to do so
----------
If you don't know the basics just get a good seo program,
WRONG - SEO programmes SEo pages, and are ABSOLUTELY no use for a directory like ESyn.
------------------
Research your keyword and build your content around that in your pages.
ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON
------------------
Make your code clean,(in your editor keep code tight, no gaps from line to line)good practice anyway.
TWADDLE - clean code ranks no better than poor code (unless the code is so bad it will not run). I have had this DIRECT from a top Google coder.
-----------------
Gear toward Google, and you'll be in great shape for yahoo.
WHAT do you mean by that? SEO is SEO. Do the on page stuff right, FOR BOTH, then get the dumbass backlinks for Google.
-----------------
THE REAL DEAL : pay to get included in Yahoo directory!!!!
WHY? TWADDLE again. I have sites ranking top 3 in competitive SERP's without a Yahoo listing. I can spend $300 a year better than a dumb Yahoo jumplink listing.
------------------
P.S. Don't use the submitting program, Few links the engines will find you and index you..
100% Agree, although you SHOULD submit manually to directories.
-----------------

If you want good rankings on your directories, do NOT be lazy. Do the keyword research, work out a great taxonomy, title the cats, sub cats etc, use unique titles, and NEVER accept the description that the person submitting uses. Visit the site, and rewrite the description. Doing this will ensure your content is 100% unique.

I edit on some well known directories (I am an overall editor for the UK on Skaffe for example) THIS is how the successfull directories pull in traffic an money.

Hi OWG,
I was in general terms, and talking about seo the index page only. But in Google search "lawn care in **** county" *****.com you'll find about five post down one of my sites, the amazing thing is only about 5 links
not in dmoz, and yes a small category, and it did pick up a back page because the first page in a img pretty much, what they wanted. But still good showing. And I was in hosting for a while but to tell someone you'll give 10,000mb storage and 500gb of data transfer to get customers is a lie (95% of the websites will never use,and the ones that do you make them upgrade) for 6.95 month. And my hosting has place in first place, first page in Google,Yahoo,Msn, under the term of affordable web hosting, which at the time was queried about 500,000 time a month in yahoo, wasn't the very top spot.
And checking
oldwelshguy.co.uk Nice site, looking at source, The first term out was seo optimization, so I used that along with seo, optimization, blog, marketing. Which for any type of site forum, blog, website should be using at least these terms. Using IBP9 which has a good seach engine rank checker. Nothing came up in Yahoo, or Google for the first 100 positions. And I can only ge about 191 link for that page. My main site doesn't show, I don't need it to, I'm not seaching the net for customers, in general conversion the website topic comes up and I get my customer from there.

Just check qualitylawn and now in the first place, the directories were pushing me down the page.(making sure of my facts)

Webtime, If you want a pissing contest no problem mate. Oldwelshguy.co.uk is a BLOG. I do absolutely no promotion of it. BUT as I am an Internet Marketing consultant in the UK, try searching google for that. On google.co.uk tell you what, why not hit this link Internet Marketing Consultancy search on google My company is Umbrella Consultancy. I am normally second out of a coupl of million (about 80) then hit internet marketing consultant I am normally top 5 for that as well, although I am only ranking for those phrases to show clients I can. Then agin I doubt internet marketing is a competitive industry is it

It always makes me laugh though when people like you try to 'shame' anyone who DARES to be critical of a post they make.

You made sweeping statements that I disagreed with, live with it dude, I do when I am wrong.

If you like, I can PM you some clients that are ranking for 'florida vacation rentals & Lanzarote villas (different clients). Also check any insurance or re-mortgage phrase in the Uk and no doubt Norwich Union will appear (they are the biggest insurers in Eurpoe) I have worked on the SEO on that site, again if you have any doubt, I am happy to give you the email addresses of my contacts in these (including Norwich Union) who will confirm my credentials.

Finally, if you would like proof of my ability to optimise E Syndicat http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...irectory&meta= deeplylinked is my directory (link in the footer to confirm), & it is using esyndicat.

I want to take this opportunity to apologise to you if I have offended you, but I am a firm believer in correcting anything I disagree with. When we make posts on forums, we are inviting criticism, if we can not handle that criticism, then we should not post. If you have been offended, then I am sorry for offending you, but there was no way to correct what I consider to be poor information, without disagreeing with some of it. (I am not sure if you noticed, but I DID agree with some of your stuff.

If you have anything to say, feel free to PM me.
