View Full Version : Would you accept reciprocal links only from related websites?

Hi,

I have a (german) website about "work from home" (no special opportunities, just some articles in general). Now I want to use eSynciCat for organizing my reciprocal link exchange on this site.

I wonder if I should only provide categories for websites related to "work from home" or provide categories for all kind of websites. I know that links from related sites count more, but can a link from non-related websites be bad for SEO?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thx, Moritz

With me, it depends on the site. I have some sites that use the link directory as an actual resource related to the topic the site is focused on. On these sites, I link to sources on the topic. V8Rumble.com (http://www.v8rumble.com) is one of these sites.

On the other hand, with some of the commercial sites I am working on it doesn't matter (such as Rebuilt Crate Engines (http://www.rebuiltcrateengines.com)). I will take links from, and link back to any site that wants to link to me. A related site will help you more, but an unrelated site won't hurt.

You just need to ensure that those extra categories don't take away from the purpose of the site. Rebuilt Crate Engines purpose is to sell engines. To rank highly, we need links, so we exchange as many as we can. On the other hand, V8Rumble's directory is the focus of the website and I don't want to clutter it with unrelated links.

Completely :offtopic:

cyque Do you know of a good website or forum the might have some tips (preparation) on starting an engine 305 cubic inch (in this case) that hasn't been run (started) for 5 years?

Thanks :)

Greg,
Anytime I have questions like that, I usually post them over on the ChevyTalk Forums (http://www.chevytalk.org). I always get good help and advice from that site.

I'm no expert on engines, although I have played with my share. More than likely, you'll get posts such as changing oil and filter, changing spark plugs & wires, draining fuel tank and adding fresh fuel, check and replace fuel filters (if any). I would also try to turn over the crank pulley with a socket to see if it turns over smoothly or if something inside is "amiss". I have also heard of points (in the distributor) being corroded from sitting there on older cars that had points. The carb is also bad about gumming up if it had gas in it while it sat, but that problem will reveal itself very quickly.

If this engine is in a car that has also been sitting, be sure to check the brakes (especially if they are drum) before you take it for a spin.

One thing to consider is how much time you want to spend maintaining this section of your site.

Many folks with general directories (take all kinds of sites) report getting 100s of submissions daily - this does vary greatly. If you keep it on topic, you will get fewer listings, but they will be more on topic and won't take you all day to go through.

Thanks cyque for the info. Pretty much what I thought would have to be done. I don't know if it's worth the time and mpney? I'm also concerned about the seals (rubber etc... )They may be all be dried up by now.Think I'll sell as is and then when things settle down in my life, I'll start over with another new project.

Thank again
Greg
