Error on install page

My host finally added the mod-rewrite module and changed some permissions for me to see the install directory.

Now however, I am getting this error at the top of the install page:

Notice: Undefined variable: error in Notice: Undefined variable: error in /vservers/username/htdocs/easylinks/install/index.php on line 158

This error a bit further down:
Notice: Undefined variable: error in /vservers/username/htdocs/easylinks/install/index.php on line 397

and this at the bottom of the page:
Notice: Undefined variable: error in /vservers/username/htdocs/easylinks/install/index.php on line 244

Any idea what is causing these errors? I didn't go ahead and fill in the form, until I had cleared this up.

Now pretty early in the morning in Au waiting for the host in US to fix my issues, so will have to revisit this tomorrow evening. Thanks to anyone that can help.
