I want to make a local yellow pages site. How hard is this to do? Is this a good program for it?

Well, please let me know a list of features you would like to see in the software and we will prepare a separate plugin for that specially optimized for yellow pages

Hi

I think that this is what I am looking for too. I need to be able to add listings with URL (i.e. URL is optional).

Is there an ETA for this?

Hi Simon,

A couple of features I think would be useful for a YP style directory would be...

1.) Multiple star ratings criteria. For example an overall rating that is the average of price, customer service, quality, etc. This would be great if the criteria could be customizable.

2.) A Search with a "Where" drop down or input field. Such as Search For : "bowling Alley" where : "Denver CO".

Those are a couple things I see regularly on local sites.

Thank you for always working to add value to the software.

Mike

recommend highly the option to set categories or geographies on first level, then the other on second, depending on client's wish

here's an example;

http://www.docshop.com/bariatric_weight_loss_surgeons/no/alabama/mma.html

they have an additional directory in their structure, 'no', which doesn't need to be there, and some would rather have the category on the second level and the geography on the first level. If you do that though, the cities either become another directory level or an html page name

this specific example is publishing html pages from an sql database using php, so it's very similar to what you already have besides the local yellow page aspect

i'd pay some extra into the kitty to speed it up as well

cheers

Hi there Simon,

I would just like to establish the following;

I am in the process of building a NATIONAL business directory. Is it possible to set up your software so that a person performing a search on the directory would be able to do a regional search, choose a City within that region and then search for a service within that City? Would I have to use your software and create multiple layers within one directory and effectively build a seperate business directory for each major region and manage it as such.

I understand that you offer a paid listing option, but does the software allow for multi level listings and would a client that pays for a premium listing appear ahead of listings that are in a lower paid listing level in a category. Is it possible to offer a premium listing client additional benefits for paying more besides coming up ahead of others when a searcg is done? i.e. mulitiple category listings, images on listings, company logo on listing etc.

In doing the above would it be possible that listings within a paid level, within a search result, could rotate each time a search was done so that you do not get an alphabetical search result every time that only benefits companies who's name begins in the lower alphabetical range?

Perhaps I could ask you to mail me a link to the yellowpages software refered to elsewhere within this post.

Thanx

Brendon

I would also be very interested in a Yellow Pages style inteface whereby the visitor could enter a category and a location e.g. plumber and Leeds.

Vasily B.

Hi

You can now achieve this using our Locations plugin . We have discussed this in the pro forums afaik and basically listings can have two params - category and locations. Visitors can filter listings by any of them.

Hello all

Allow me please to congratulate eSyndiCat to their software. We compared dozens and eSyndiCat is just simply the best ... and then there is a long way to the second. Simon, great achievement.

+ the pre-sale support is fantastic, too. Now we just became a new member of eSyndiCat - Thank you. :good:

When going the first time to downloads, we stumbled across a "business directory" version? But now we cannot find the link anymore. In the forum we discovered many posts about business directory, yellow page style directory but - is there a separate version or did we just misinterpret it?

We are about to develop a very advanced international business directory and the business directory software will come very handy.

In addition, may be ask for some more details about the "Claim a listing" module?

I hope I didn't post this question in the wrong place?!

Have a great day

Welcome to our support forums

Thanks for your feedback, Norbert and welcome to the pro community ;)

There WILL BE a separate version after stable version release. Currently we are focused on the stable version release and once it's ready we will update current package for yellow page style directory. It will be a separate addition to the script. Pro stable version will be released next week. Then it will take up to 2 weeks to adapt that package for a new version.

Yes, we have a claim a listing plugin and it allows a visitor to assign ownership for a listing. For example admin adds a new listing. Later visitor can claim his ownership for that listing and edit information. He needs to verify his ownership and that can be done by placing a code on that site.

More details will be posted in plugins section.

Hi All,
I am currently using PhpMyDirectory but as I see your plugin feature looks to develop much faster I am also thinking of switching..

Please let me know also if your script will be able to display listings similar to
http://www.phpmydirectory.com/demo/mikes-automotive-2.html

Can this script handle more thank 50K listings? Was that tested?

Great job guys

Welcome to the forums...

I have just replied in helpdesk

Yes, well template is really ugly now but it's for RC version only. Stable version will be released on Tuesday with more templates.

I have sent the plugins for you to check :) Our script is expandable by plugins and most functionality is added via them. I don't see any problems with a page like that. There are quite many customers who have pretty seriously modified directories here

Also we tested our software with much more than 50 k listings and it works pretty stable and fast

Thank you. Demos looked nice looking forward to see the latest version.

Does plugins require core code modification?

I mean if lets say a non-programmer user gets a plugin can he/she just upload and enable in admin to make it work or how many files need to be changed?

No, this is what is wonderful about this version. I have been testing it out and I find it a HUGE step up.

All of the plugins are already ready to go, you just need to enable it.

That is coming up in early part of January, the team is currently updating some of the templates and the plugins for version 2.3.

I would try eSyndiCat 2.3 and get used to the new capabilities then when the Yellow Pages plugin and templates are ready you will be able to setup everything with speed and simplicity. I recommend to build all of your categories, keywords and titles for your site beforehand as well so you just import them and you will have a fast conversion based site.

That's how I try to do things now so I don't have to have the problems when I start getting traffic right at the start.

Are you a sale person for Esyndicat.com? Why come here to advertise you will pay up to $499.00 for the same script or better,
when you could just go to the same site and buy the script?

This post is looking like a price hike and it's not looking good on Esyndicat.com

Couple of keypoints, First the bad.

The site is very high price for what it does.
The design is lacking, the text is very small for the average user.
The little scrolling text at the bottom is tacky looking.

The good,

I like the minimalistic icons on the top left with simple one word actions.

Php yellow is ... well simply trash..

Dont even try to compare with esyndicat I would actually remove the post if I was esyndicat as it seems it is an advertising post for that trash.

There are other directory scripts for example what I use but will not post the link here as respect for esyndicat.

The only reason I have not switched yet to esyndicat is poor listing view page. Which makes esyndicat more like a link directory and not a company or yellowpages directory.

Still will have an eye on how the yellowpages or yelp type of esyndicat developing maybe it will worth switching some day.

Hi all,
Please excuse me as this is my first post so i hope it is all done in the correct manor.

I have esyndicat v2.3 which fair play guys... is an awesome tool!
How i want to configure my site would be like a Uk national search directory very much like yell.com
I'd want the home page to be very "Plain" so what would be met by my vistors would be search based... as in "i am looking for" (insert search ie plumber) "based in" (insert city/postcode).
i am wondering if i have purchased the wrong script here as v2.3 seems very much a link exchange.

I'd really appreciate some advise and pointers.

Many thanks in advance and again a credit to esyndicat!
