I saw that alot of you posted of getting PRs really fast, so i thought we could start this thread to discuss all the techniques, i tried alot but havn't gotten myself anywhere yet. So i'm curious on how you guys got a PR jump to PR3 or PR4 in only 1-3 months? Well from what i know there is:
Onsite SEO:
Meta Tag keywords
Meta Tag Description
Offsite SEO:
Directory Submissions
Search Engine Submissions
Good Anchor Text
I know i'm probubly missing alot, but whats the secret? Is there alot more that i should be doing or is there a special trick that i have to do for those listed.

There's no trick other than hard work really! You need to get as many 'quality' links into your site on a regular basis. I use Google's webmaster tools service. With this I can see when they last crawled my site. I then add some content in the form of one or 2 articles and I add a dozen or so links, no more. I then wait until Google visits again add a few more links and articles and so it goes on!
There's a lot of information about Google and how it rank sites but a lot of it is just people's opinions as no one knows for sure Google's algorithum to rank sites. And it changes all the time. But I follow Matt Cutts advice (he works for Google) and he says they want to see good content added regularly with good incoming and outgoing links to and from quality websites. If you fill your site with a 1000 links in a week it will look spammy and won't do you any good.
I add a lot of quality sites to my directory without these sites having to link back to me. They are the number 1 ranking sites on Google in their field. If you link to good quality sites Google will appreciate this. I only have 40+ inbound links to my site but it's pagerank is 4 and is on the front page for a number of dating related keywords which is a very competive market.
Building a quality high traffic directory is a long and hard process. There are no easy shorts cuts. You have to be patient and work at it and give yourself 6 months before seeing any results. The team here at eSyndiCat have made our work a lot easier with this fantastic script but you still have some hard work to do yourself!
BTW - Don't worry about pagerank too much as it doesn't mean a great deal and should not be the be all and end all of your ambitions. Build a solid, quality directory that YOU would want to visit regularly and Google will reward you! Throw in 1000's of links and stacks of duplicate content from other websites and you'll get nowhere fast.
Good luck

Woah! Thanks Phil, that was really inspiring! The getting links i kind of understands, but what about content? Do you write it yourself? Because i'm not that great of a writer...and my directory isn't really aimed at anything...so i'm not too sure how to get the quality contents i need?

You can find a lot of websites offering content and articles. Prices will vary from free to expensive. The free content will have been downloaded by many webmasters and could be on 100's of sites thus giving you the problem of displaying duplicate content which will lower you search results and rankings.
You can buy articles and content for your website and obtain full rights for them meaning no one else gets a hold of them. So you could end up with unique content but it will come at a price. Expect to pay anything from $50+ per article.
There are 100's of content and article sites. Type 'free articles' in Google and see what you find!

Do you think its worth it though to pay 50+ per article? And dont you need alot of them? is that how you obtain your content or do you write them yourself? Thanks! Dont know where to start but atleast now i got a clue.

Obviously it's best to write your own if you can. Understandably that's just not possible for everyone. So those who can't write their own articles have no other chocies than to buy the content for their websites. $50+ is for the outright ownership of articles that won't be on other sites. You can get a lot of content for free but many websites will have the same content on it which lowers your overall ranking.
Maybe to begin with fill it with free content, then move to buying unique content or writing your own. Unfortunately there's no easy answer to this!

the simplest way:
I have acquired a link from very strong PR4, and on next update, the site was PR4 (though now it's probably PR3)
If all you care for is PR, just get some strong backlink point to your site.
If you care about your traffic and rankings, it's way more work than that (probably covered in the answers above)

Where can we buy a unique content/article? I am not a good writer.
1. The best and cheaper way is to do it through freelance.
My favorites are:
http://www.ifreelance.com
http://www.project4hire.com
2. Another cheap way is to buy Private Label Article packages, but these articles you better rewrite, as anybody who bought them could use them and content become not so unique.

I get plenty of links from blogs. I release about 3 or 4 worpress themes a month. my last theme was downloaded over 1140 time. let us assume only 500 of this downloads get to be kept on the blogs, that would be 500 backlinks to my directory.

Hi,
In fact the rank page does not have great value safe for marketing by that attracts world.
But in daily reality good correctly organized contents and to optimize are worth more than rank page.
Why:
The rank page of a page is mainly the reflection of the number of backlink towards this page. However that does not prove absolutely the quality of this page.
On the other hand a page on page rank 0-2 with good contents and some backlinks of quality and of comparable nature generally obtains a position largely higher than some of page rank 5 with little contents or whose key words are badly defined…
Thus yes that represents work but if one conceives in a natural way by always saying oneself if I were visitor what I would like to find on this page, navigation am it easy, am there bonds interesting towards pages on related subject.
Finally patience and the reflection are of rigor on the Web, to register its site on 500 directories is not used for nothing separately to make rank page but one with considering it was useless, on the other hand being registered on directories of quality and if possible whose set of themes is in connection with the objective of its site is much gratifiant.

Hi,
Cheer for your site.
I find interesting very your idea of bar with the letters of the alphabet allowing to post the categories and under categories starting with the selected letter.
It is really a good service for the Net surfer.
I would wish if you are agreement to integrate this service into my new directory.
For that, if that does not appear incongruous to you, would be it possible for you to communicate the corresponding code to me.
By advance thank you and as a thanks one could easily consider exchanges of bonds on my other directories in PR5, PR4 and PR3.
