I need categories to choose when adding new listing

How to show categories not ROOT when adding new listing.

Please, enable in Admin Panel » Configuration » General Configuration ->Categories dropdown instead of tree

Then in suggest link you will see dropdown list with categories. For select category in deeper level - click in parent category in list. Then open list again.

I've done as suggested, but "Root" is still showing when you go to add a link? I'm probably missing something really basic.

No sorry it's not, I got caught up in something else... root is still showing as a category even though I've tried everything I can think of and that I've seen on the boards..any other ideas?

In our 2.2 version we do not have dropdown at all. Now categories are available through a tree element. It's much better when you have a great number of categories.
