I have very little programming experienced and would appreciate some suggestions.. :-)
I am setting up a community website with a local business directory. Should I use a separate domain or would a subdomain be okay. I just have heard that Google doesn't see a subdomain when indexing sites... Is this correct?
Thanks!!!
You are better off asking that question here ihelpyou.com/forums/

Hi mng026,
Welcome to our support forums. First please explain is this directory related to your website. If they are irrelevant I would go with a different domain name, if it's an addition to your main site - I would install it in a subdirectory. In this case you would get more relevant pages indexed on your website and it would be better for your site.

It is interesting and not easy question.
Generally Google see subdomains as a separate site. But it is not easy to get a good position in serps for subdomain these days. Google made some changes about subdomains in his algorithm not long time ago. However if your subdomain has good linking with your main domain it could help for your main domain get a better position in serps. If my explanation not clear let me know and I will try to explain it different way.
So, as Simon said it is really depend from what you are trying to achieve and how good your directory related to your website content. :)
