PHP 5.0 vs PHP 4.30 +

Hi guys,,
I have read the system requirements for this script and they say php 4.30 or above.. But is it php 5.0 compatible??.. It does not seem to be as i installed this script on a free server using php 4 + but i can not get this script to work on my server which is php 5.0 .

For example in the past i have had to update php scripts to work in 5.0 by changing post_ to http_post_ etc..

Is the full version php 5.0 compatible ??? if so, and i come into trouble installing it, will you get it up and running for me??? If you cant get it going then what ??.. I would like to buy the unlimited licence when i purchase..

( I just think it strange i installed the free script so quick and easy on a free server using php 4.30+ and yet i have spent about 4 hours on my server with no luck whatso ever.. ( I have an unanswered thread in the install section of the forum))

I am thinking its not ready for 5.0.

Hi Joff,
welcome to our support forums. Actually our script is being developed on PHP Version 5.1.6. So I can exactly say it does work on php 5. It seems there is a specific configuration on your own server. You told before you had to change post to http_post etc. $_POST works fine on PHP 5 as well so please try to check your server configuration.
If you want please contact our support team and they will check what's wrong with your config.

Hello! As Simon already noticed eSyndiCat being developed on PHP 5. Actually it is a little bit encouraged to you to use PHP 5 instead of PHP 4. As of we make the script PHP 4 compatible rather than PHP 5 compatible.

Heres the deal..
I have installed your script on 2 servers with absolutely no problem. On my main server which is php5.0 i have all sorts of problems. This also happened with a datingsite i installed.

Luckily for me, i dont really mind installing on a different server using php 4.0+ and thats what i have done. I just bought an unlimited licence and i am waitng for delivery ..

Thanks for all your help but i went through such an email tag with my server, spent hours trying to getting the script to work, yet, in 15 minutes last night i signed up for new hosting, and today in 15 minutes installed the script..

So for me,, php5.0 is very niggly, and not worth the time and effort writing to tech support in different timezones, playing around with configs etc.. My time is money just as it is everyone elses.. In 1/2 an hour i had the free script installed in comparrison to approx 3 hours of email tag (and countless frustration with my host) and at least 3 hours playing with the script.

Again , thanks for the help.. I like the script, i got to play around with it eventually, i have now bought it, and will be using it on atleast 3 domains..
