Apache mod_rewrite module - does it help with SEO or Hurt ?

The mode rewrite on directories does it help with rankings with google and others or does it hurt?

I host with a few places, and am setting up a new search engine. The one with the extra space does not support mode rewrite. Will it effect my google placement?

AFAIK mod_rewrite is transparent for search engines. It can not hurt your SERPs
