Any one have luck with sites indexed (2.0 install)
And do you have to anything special?
None of my 2.0 installs are indexed, I thought that with the sitemap built in we have more chance of being indexed.
What am I missing?
Last four in my signature are 2.0 installs.
Thanks

I haven't even launched mine yet but I did notice in the code for the script there appears to be values to accomodate site description and keywords.... but I havn't found any place in the admin panel to add these.
Seeing as NONE of the directories I looked at and did a view source on had proper meta tags, my own included, it's got me wondering if this isn't a bad thing for us and has me leaning heavily to asking the questions:
" Why the $keyword and $descriptions values in the header.tpl files?..what keywords and description are these value for? If they are for our own... where in 2.0 do we edit these values?"
Just a thought but could the lack of proper meta tags be part of the indexing hurdle?

Tech25,
when you create a category you have the option of filling in the meta-description and meta-keywords. when i view source on my directory they appear just fine. if you are viewing source on your root directory, make sure that you included the meta data for root by browsing to root and selecting the edit icon.

sai,
i created two new sites using 2.0 and they were indexed within a week, and one of them only has 1 inbound link from another "0" pr site I just created.

1) your site did not load.
2) I am mainly asking for Google index.
Your site looks like indexed ok by Yahoo...
Now a days Yahoo is very good with indexing sites.
Thanks

I notice that 3 of the 4 sites doesnt have correctly completed Meta tags.
I would suggest you complete these, then just manually submit the sites, they should get picked up in around 1-2 weeks.
This is what I have always done in the past.

I have 2 new sites both listed in yahoo and google with v2.0.
There is no problem with the script - the problem is with the value of your site.
If you have a site that looks exactly like 1000 of other sites, has exact the same category structure and overloaded with ads - chance is you will not be indexed by Google.
Most likely you will be considered mirror site and banned.
Please build some useful unique content before complaining that Google doesn't index your site.

Mean, but true.
Google is starting to ban directories that look like other directories. I'd highly recommend NOT to use eSyndiCat default templates, but to create you own. First, you win on Google. And second, your directory will look more professional as people will know that you actually can modify templates.
Just my 2 cents ;)

WTM,
I have a very good respect for you.
And you helped me a lot, is that you really posting that?
If you read my post, I did not blame the script, just trying to see if I missed any steps.
Google sitemap generator is interduced in this verions, so, I want to make sure I am using it properly.
Thanks
.
This was not a personal attack on anyone - just a common suggestion...
To use Google site map:
1. Create Google account if you don't have one yet - it's free.
2. Add and verify all of your sites to it
3. For every site submit url of the sitemap (http://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml)
4. Check every once in a while to make sure site map was read with no errors and site was crawled.
5. Wait and hope that Google decides to index your site...
That's all.

Stupid question from an ignorant : how do you know when you've been indexed by Goog or Yahoo?

You can try to search for the following in google:
site:yourdomain.com
If Google returns any pages this means your site has been indexed.

AFAIK Google updates results for this once or twice a month. So sometimes you do not see your results at the same moment when Google bot comes to your site.

After switching over to the directory, I did notice that my link popularity increased by 50% for one directory. I cannot distinquish if it was just a clean up of my reciprocal links or was it the directory itself. Has anybody used the links wizard? I have decided to stay away from it because I think it hurts more than it helps. I have decided to do RSS submissions, blog links and just plain ask for submission links instead. I think this will produce better PR results in the long run.
Any thoughts on this?B)

I often meet words like 'Content is king'. and that's true. Content is very important for a website. And what's more important - you should have unique content. Then your directory (forums, blog, etc) has a chance for success.
