I've been looking at what other directories are doing so as to figure out the best way to structure mine.
One trick I just noticed: In lieu of requiring a site with a reciprocal link back to the directory itself, a handful of directories are now insisting submitted sites add a link to THEIR sponsor.
Example: http://www.bestbusinessdirectory.com/suggest.php?action=addlink&catid=6
I find this quite interesting... it seems to offer the potential to trade off the traditonal attempt at building page ranking through having lots of links, for a more immediate revenue of being paid for getting an ad deployed.
Q1: Anyone have more information on this system? I assume there's an organized advertising system behind it, because another directory I examined offered you the choice of three different sponsors.
Q2: What sort of results does it deliver? I'd be worried about selling off your directory's long-term viability by not building links to the directory itself.
Q3: Can this be done with eSyndiCat?
