View Full Version : Link Details and Duplicate Content?

Hello,

I was just wondering if by any chances G wouldn't treat the links details pages as duplicates of the links in the listings, since in the link details pages we have the same content, especially the links descriptions.

It seems internal duplicate content (within the same TLD) isn't considered nearly as bad as external duplicate content for SEO, but it isn't recommended either.

Any thoughts on this issue?

Anyway, I'd like very much to be able to disable link details for free listings and offer them only as a bonus for sponsors instead (but with the ability to add original & extended content instead of the same link description).

Vinicius

WTM crated a Teaser Mod:

I haven't inspected this mod yet, but probably this might help you: in link listings you can display teaser and on link details pages you can display full description.

What do you think?

Another, more cumbersome way: make a new field, and display it on a details page only. It could contain extended description or anything else you can think up.

Thanks for the replies.

These solutions are indeed better from the SEO perspective, but it would be a little bit overwhelming for me to manage the detailed contents of hundreds of links right now. I'm still on early development stages yet... :) I'd rather turn them off completely at this point and resume at a later time.

fjean: I didn't find the "link details" bellow each listing at allwebplaces.com...

Did you entirely remove the links details?

I did not remove it. I just make the link point to the link details page and the external link to the site is found on the link details page. I'm thinking that will allow each and every link detail page to be different, well indexed by SEs, and have a pr on the next update.

I see now.

Very interesting. However, the links descriptions are the same in both pages (at the category and details page). That's precisely what I'd like to avoid.

By the way, for anyone interested, Vincent came up with a solution that disable link details for free links and let only sponsored links have them:

http://www.esyndicat.com/forum/about6979.html

I liked it a lot, because at the same time it addresses this SEO issue, it adds value to sponsored plans.

As a suggestion for future updates, the next step would be to allow further customization of the link details pages (adding different text, upload of logos, giving more than one link for the sponsors, let him manage his own details page etc.).

Thanks... with Vincent mod and this tip I'm happy again ;)
