Hello guys

I can access to the editor section, but I can not create editors... is it a mistake or I did some wrong?

Hello travelfinder,

You have to open your admin area of the eSyndiCat. Configuration->Editors Configuration->Editors and enable this option.

Hello,

I can relate to travelfinder's question as I have the same problem. Enabling all, disabling some, and trying different combinations out of the 3 options in the Editors' Configuration did not help with anything. When I go to "Manage Editors" I see two options: (1) View; (2) Search. I see no clickable link that might allow someone to apply to become an editor, like a registration form or something.

This is one function I cannot do without, and I was particularly interested in the DMOZ functionality of the script when I purchased it. It seems that none of the editor configurations I select are working. Please advise. Thanks

There isn't a "create" editors funtion.
They are created when the editor registers. If you have editors enabled and registered only enabled, when someone submits a link they will be requested to register and then you can approve/reject.

Thanks redeye, you're right! I knew I was ovelooking something... I just hadn't tried posting links from outside of the admin panel.

And in case somebody runs into the same difficulty, if you have the setting "Register Only" disabled, a "register" link does appear under the login button. But only if you're browsing under a category, not on the front page.

Do you think a functionality to create editors in admin panel is necessary? If so we will consider this to be added in our future versions.

What exactly IS DMOZ functionality in the context of this script?

Simon: Yes, I think the ability to create editors is definitely necessary. My experience with editors so far has been troublesome:

(1) They don't register under the categories that they are supposed to, and
(2) You can't move editors to the appropriate category (as far as I know), and
(3) If you move their links to the right category, their access rights don't follow their link so they end up losing control of their links and retain access to the wrong portion of the directory.

In one case, after I moved the links I got an email from an editor stating that he couldn't login anymore. I don't have enough instances to draw an appropriate conclusion in this case though...

If they are not under the right category you have to delete their accounts, and then you could sign them up yourself and send them the details but this could end up being a pain...

If I know somebody who is interested in becoming an editor, and I do, I'd rather send them the login details auto style from the admin pannel after editor account creation.

Furthermore, an editor is not able to register/edit more than one category as far as I can tell. And, if s/he tries to register again for a new category, the system rejects the email address as being already in the database. These are issues that I think are serious enough to be looked at. I will be happy to provide more input.
