OK, so there's a great deal of knowledge floating around on these threads. Answers are often scattered among a series of posts and can be virtually impossible to decipher. Also folks are quietly making mods and customizations and in the process 'discover' ways to enhance their directories - this information remains unshared and is essentually lost.
May I suggest a new area in the forum simply dedicated to how to's. We could collaborate on them and when finished they could be added to the FAQ area. This way no one person is burdened with writing FAQs for everything and the best possible solutions can be developed (ie, most clean code, most standard compliant code, etc.)
I realize some of the customizations and mods are quite elaborate and may not be easily shared, but there are tons that are.
I posted How to Put Placeholder Text in Empty Categories in the SEO area as it discusses empty categories - which did create a lengthy discussion in an earlier thread. Several folks, including myself asked how to do this and there was no answer posted. My how-to could be improved and it does end with a request for someone else to explain how to list the actual category.
Perhaps there could be some sort of payment system, for example points to buy personal help from the support team or something else to encourage everyone to participate?
C'mon folks, let's help each other rather than letting each other continually reinvent the wheel.
