Does anyone use a PHP - based counter/status application integrated with their directory? I don't want to use hosted/free ones because of potential performance lags. I want something I can install and integrate with my directory.
Use statcounter, they wont slow your server down at all and the reporting is good.

I set up my account on StatCounter.com. Where did you insert the code?
Depends on if you made it hidden or not. If you did make it hidded, I'd add it directly below the <body> tag as I did with mine. If you didnt make it hidden (you can recreate it to hide it), then I'd add it to the footer around the copyright info or somewhere down there.

Hidden yes...would I put the code into header.tpl?
Yes, right below the <body> tag

:offtopic:
btw, StatCounter.com is one of few sites with PR 10. really great
They should be a 10 with as many sites that use it and have the backlinks enabled :)
