Silly question: Can someone explain to me what the reciprocal link is all about and how it's used? %)

If I'm adding links (through admin) for example, what the heck do I put in that field?

HI,

If you are entering the liks from admin. Just leave the Reciprocal link blank and when you add the system will send an email to the link holder if you enter their email address.

you can edit the email template to request the link holder to add a reciprocal link to your site.

When they add a link you can go and add the reciprocal link.

Thanks
Sai

Reciprocal linking is kind of like, I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine. If you display my link on your site, I'll display your link on mine.

In terms of eSyndicate you can have it optional as has been noted or you may make it required. If you leave it optional it gives the opportunity for someone submitting a link in your directory to leave you a goodwill gesture, as they are not required to do so.

Many web sites are designed in such a way or the image they are attempting present do not work well with having a lot of links on their site. Other sites may have a hodge podge long list of links on a page which are of questionable value. For those and other reasons I've chosen to leave a reciprocal link optional in my directory.

I did however this past week receive a very nice reciprocal link from a fellow eSyndicat user. I thought it was nice so I'll give them a plug; http://www.webwinx.com/links/

Be well,
Tina

Oh, so let's say I'm setting up a link (via admin) for "Joe's Speedshop". My options are:

A. If I know the reciprocal link that exists on HIS site, I'll key it into the field.
B. If I don't know the link, I'll leave it blank.

That link on HIS site points back to MY site...is that correct?:poisk:

If it is important for you to keep track of those that display reciprocal links back to you yes that would be good way to keep track. Beyond that particular need however there is no real reason I can think of why when adding links via admin that you would need to worry about entering anything in that field.

Be well,

exactly it is a page that contains a backlink to your site.
