Making custom fields searchable...

I added several custom fields - city, zip code, etc. How do I make them searchable?

I hoped to make this feature for our current version(1.2) but I did not have enough time :( Anyhow, I still hope to make it in the next version. This is #1 in my todo list
Now you should make changes in your php and tpl files manually to achieve desired results.

That's OK. I didn't know if there is a step-by-step somewhere on how to accomplish this that I can reference?
