Do I need to install it above version 1.1?
Won't it destroy the actual database?

hi all,
I will prepare an upgrade script within next 2-3 days and you will be able to upgrade your databases.
If you have modified templates it's going to be some difficult to upgrade the version :(
Hi,
First thanks for the new version! B)
If you have modified templates it's going to be some difficult to upgrade the version :(
Now thats what i call bad news :(
Would it be possible to do a step by step tutorial? (assuming it would work with all pro 1.1 templates).
Congratulation

Thank Simon for the coming upgrade script. :applause:
The problem of template ( and other custom changes ) is present with any open source software.
So anyone changing something he should keep some log of changes he made.
So he can check later and redo when needed in the new version.
Giving this wise advice... ;) I have to say that I don't do it myself and come so sometime in problems. :wallbash:

Can someone explain to me what this new feature is?
Below are some of the new features:
- New custom link field "File" storage type
I'm hoping it's my #1 request in This Thread (http://www.esyndicat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1345) but it doesn't sound like it.

You can create a field to upload file when you submit a link. There are many cases where this functionality could be used.

What apresman said...
Anyone have a good idea about how to figure out what we have changed in our templates? Maybe comparing the 1.1 templates with our own BEFORE upgrading to 1.2?
Of course, I didn't save an original copy of the old templates either... :wallbash:
Simon -- can we download the 1.1 templates from somewhere?

Hi Simon
The new release brings some nice improvements, but I'm disappointed with what has not been added:
* the ability to initiate a reciprocal link check against existing links has not been added ( http://www.esyndicat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17) - this is a *big* omission in a (primarily) reciprocal linking script. I'm very disappointed this hasn't been added.
* I mentioned a few months ago that Smarty engine has had several releases since the one used with eSyndicat (bug fixes, PHP compatibility), but that has not been updated
* I wish effort had been made to make the new template valid XHTML + CSS, to be semantically correct, accessible and easy to customise. Instead it is full of unnecessary <div>s and <table>s. Also there is no reason to use XHTML1.1 - 1.0 transitional is perfectly acceptable
* a few months ago I provided you with a re-written admin CSS which you agreed looked more stylish (it also adds usability improvements + reduces code for easier customisation) - it hasn't been used
* long URLs in admin ( http://www.esyndicat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1028) has not been fixed. That's very poor as the solution was provided months ago.
This is just first impressions from a quick test install.

Hi
Anyhow we try to improve our software. I have just reuploaded zip file with the newest smarty version 2.6.13. Templates.. Most of them are customly modified. you are right about our reciprocal checking and long urls :( I will include them in our patch that is going to be released in about a month.

Yes, but it is much easier to customise the base template if it is constructed from clean, error-free, minimal, semantic, standards-based markup. The following article explains a little of what I mean: Front-End Architecture (http://www.garrettdimon.com/archives/front-end-architecture-markup-is-the-technical-foundation)

Look here near the bottom of the page. You'll see a code # that has to be entered before a user can suggest a link.
