Hi, I don't mean to be a smartass and fully respect the way you will choose to do the moderation thing, just few humble suggestions...

As for closing the topics that were solved, what if someone else has something similar.... or would like to give additional comments... or post additional question as it didn't work for him the exactly same way, or (s)he didn't understand it whole completely.. Shall they open new extra thread just because that old one was closed? (I for example feel inclined from time to time to re-open old issues for additional clarifications when necessary....)

I would suggest allowing private messaging (I would have sent this one that way if that was possible), but I of course understand you might have reasons for disallowing that.

Again... just suggestions/points to discuss, I don't mind either way you choose.

Glad to be here btw., you all are of great help!

I understand your concern. The only threads that really need to be closed are those that have resolved issues. That way someone reading them may know that the threads do not really need replies. They can of course still read them. As far as those threads in the bug forum, if the bug has been fixed in the next version, then the problem is solved.

Generally, I'm in favor of closing resolved threads. It's far more effective to start a new thread rather than whanging around in an old one.

As this just started today, there will be issues. I guess I'm kinda at the other side of the closing of the threads. Just my opinion now. :) But I think we should just start anew as of today, and move post/threads to their proper location as they come in. I think the only time I'd close a thread is if someone is getting out of hand. And thankfully that hasn't happened here yet. (knock wood :))

If anyone one wishes a topic to be unlocked (with good reason) just email me and I'll open it up.

I don't plan on being a cop around here, but just a user, who would like to be able to find an answer to their problem just as others are.

My little 2 cents. :)

I hope it won't. I know one of the top webmaster forums on the internet is run by just one admin and I didn't even notice he is existing through months. It's just that there is great community there so all runs smoothly, and I get the impression it might be same case here.

My main point above was to save time for both users and admins (especially), so this is kind offer but I hope I will not have to resort to bothering you, I would rather post a new thread in that case.

Btw. what about the private messaging? Is it up to Simon? No deal, just that it's handy, I found myself two times (oh yeah, I'm learning slowly) already clicking on the PM button only to realize it's not on.

Keep up the good work. I know I wouldn't be a good admin probably, so hats off for you for taking this unrewarding job for us members.

I would also consider closing threads with resolved issues. If people have the same problem it is better to start a new thread, if the old one is not helpful enough. Thn moderator(advisor) does not have to reread the thread from the beginning trying to catch what the problem is. IMHO, if you do see the problem is solved the thread should be closed

Ideally, we should be doing searches to find whether the question we wanted to ask has already been answered. Instead, we all take the easy way out -- ask the question again. [I have the same problem too.]

But, as the others posted, it might not have been explained the way we view it, or in the situation we have encountered a problem. A legitimate case.

This would be resolved partially if there is a frequently asked questions (FAQs) section.

All that of course require time, manpower and resources. And, until everyone pitch in, it may take time, if ever, before such features would be found here -- or perhaps in a well-written Manual.

completely agree with you, a faq could solve lots of problems..

Simon and I are working on setting up the Wiki that will hold the FAQ and Manual. If anyone would like to contribute to the wiki, please send me a private message. I would like to at least have a few pages of content before making it available to the general public.

Hi echopulse!

How did the TikiWiki set up go? I hope everything went well. It took me a bit of time to do it because I really do not know what I am doing.

I still do not know what I am doing but I think it is a very good program, in my opinion. If you and Simon wants to play with it, with the essentially empty one I had set up, I can give you and Simon editor or temporary admin permissions, in one of my websites.

Sorry I had to rush... I lived quite far away from where I was when we were chatting. I got home past 12 midnight.

why not private messages? :)

it's more fun this way, to intrigue other posters. *hehe*

Sorry for that quip, Simon. I was engrossed with other stuff, and I forgot to check my email. I would not have posted the one that echopulse responded to.

Mea culpa.

Please, I will try to behave --> next year.

I am just being playful tonight because what could have turned out to be bad news became good news tonight. With that done, I finally settled what has occupied me the past month. Thank God, I hope I do not have to go through that again.

So, you may see more of my crazy postings here again.
