- I have read all of the posts that I can find on cron problems.
- I have read the help files.
- I have also been emailing through the help desk for MANY WEEKS now - and all mail that I receive back seems to be going AROUND IN BIG CIRCLES!
I am posting the letter here - in hopes that someone can help me here.
I would VERY much apprecitate it!
All I'm trying to do is.... get my cron working. My biggest desire right now is, to have the page rank update automatically, so I don't have to go in & change each one by hand in the database.
Thanks so much for your help!

John -
Thanks for getting back to me.
I feel like I'm going around in HUGE circles - just trying to get a little thing working?
I have sent numerous emails over the last several weeks - all documenting what steps I have taken to get this cron update working!
Here we go AGAIN.
- I have read the article
- I got a 0 after the first step - so I didn't have to go to the 2nd step
- I checked my directory path for cron
- I set up the cron job in my host admin
- The job runs - but I get an error message that looks like this:
(this path was given by godaddy - my host)
/bin/sh: line 1: /var/chroot/home/content/c/o/u/countryvillage/html/links/cron/check.php
So - I went in & checked the path & tried this path & got the same message
(this path I got from going through the check steps in my e-admin panel)
/bin/sh: line 1: /home/content/c/o/u/countryvillage/html/links/includes/cron.php: Permission denied
- Both give me permission denied
- Godaddy said - I needed to be able to pull up the page through a browser in order for the cron to work.
So - I entered this url:
http://www.littlecountryvillage.com/links/includes/cron.php
But - I get this error:
.................................................. ..
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /links/includes/cron.php on this server.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.littlecountryvillage.com Port 80
.................................................. .....
- So... the next thing godaddy said was, I could try to change the file permissions to 777 for the file/folder to get the access that I need for cron to run.
- I tried that step & it still did not work.
All I am trying to do is to get my automatic updates (page rank, etc.) to work.
I use godaddy.com as my host - so they do not have cpanel - as I am on a shared hosting plan.
I have ftp info I can give you (gave it to him - but removed it for this post)
Please let me know soon - if this info is enough for you to help.
Thanks!
Pearl

Hi Pearl.
Sorry fro delay.
Could you please describe your goal in more details.
* John - All I'm trying to do is... get the cron to work. I would like the
updates to the site to work (Page Rank, etc.) without me having to go in &
check each one & change each one by hand in the MSQL area.
If you have a phone number where you would like for me to call - I would be
more than happy to do that. I am trying to describe everything the best
I can - please let me know if you need more details than the above.

Dear John,
Ok - I'm not sure what's happening - maybe there's a glitch in the
system? I wish there was a phone number for me to be able to call,
so I could share the situation with you. We have sent emails back &
forth for a while now. The response I get is - "got nothing" in my email.
I don't know what that means... maybe the email comes back blank?
Anyway, above is the last response that I received, so I am pasting
the last email that I here for you to read. I would assume that the ticket
# would keep track of all emails in your help system & that you would
have each email sent by me, so that you could look back over it?
The problem that I'm having is a cron problem. I am receiving email
from godaddy.com each day with cron job updates. The updates show
"permission denied". When I called godaddy, they said - if the check.php
file will not display in your browser, then the cron job will not work.
Below is the last email that I sent to support@esyndicat.com:

John - When you say - "you got nothing" what does that mean?
You didn't get any text within my email - or does it mean something else?
Please let me know what "exactly" you need me to do. Here is the last email

blah, blah, blah, the emails all say the same thing... basically I send the same request, then a few weeks later, I get an email asking me to read the article - or send more details. UUGGGHHH!
