Hello all,
We are released the stable version 2.2 of eSyndiCat. So I will try to explain to how you could upgrade your version to stable version if you have RC or RC2. You have to download the upgrade in the download area.
First of all I recommend to create a backup your current version.
If you have the RC version you have to download "Upgrade 2.2 RC - 2.2 [Stable]".
If you have the RC2 version you have to download "Upgrade 2.2 RC2 - 2.2 [Stable]".
You have to reupload all files from upgrade to your current directory.
After open your admin panel :
Admin Panel » Manage Database » Import
In the dropdown menu choose the "patch" and click "Go".
That's all.
If you have any problem with upgrade please let me know about it.

"If you have the RC version you have to download "Upgrade 2.2 RC - 2.2 [Stable]".
If you have the RC2 version you have to download "Upgrade 2.2 RC2 - 2.2 [Stable]".
Quick question
when i click on upgrade 2.2 RC2 - 2.2 the download under action appears next to 2.2rc - 2.2
Are the patches the same or is there a problem?
Put allot of work in & dont want to lose it all
thanks
Simon

Same questions here. I'm sure that I am not the only one who virtually never installs RC versions. (Microsoft calls them version 1.0 and I always wait for Service Pack 1).
And can someone on staff here PLEASE explain to me why you cannot include installation and upgrade instructions as a text file with the download? Almost every other bit of software I have that needs such instructions either includes them or includes a link to a web page with full instructions.
I've mentioned this before, here and elsewhere. I like almost everything about eSyndicat except (1) upgrading is unnecessarily complicated; (2) every time I need to upgrade I have to go hunting through through the support forums trying to find instructions; and (3) almost every time I upgrade I have to discard my template and try to find a new one.
Simon Gooffin, this issue really needs your attention. It is a large blemish on an otherwise great product.

djbaxter could not said it better myself.
One more thing all this RC2 2.00 and what ever name it is makes me confused.
Why not use 19.9999 beta and then 2.0 and if it is a way to go to 3 then use 2.1 and then 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 well you get it, not RC.

i was wondering if there is the possibility to get a single install of version 2.2 INCLUDING the plugins in one shot. it is very labor intensive to add like 20 plugins. maybe such selection could be done in a new release...

I for one would NOT want that.
There are many plugins I don't need and don't want. That's the whole point of plug-ins: You get to install the functionality you want without a whole lot of features you're never going to use.
I'm probably going to install about 4 of the currently available plug-ins, maybe 6 tops.

Guys,
That problem with downloading the upgrade patch has been fixed. Now you can download the correct version
2 Paul69:
No, upgrade does not change tables prefix so you should not worry about this

No sorry :( The main purpose of plugin system is to configure the script according to your needs. Though we will make an improvement on the site to download all plugins in a bundle
And can someone on staff here PLEASE explain to me why you cannot include installation and upgrade instructions as a text file with the download? Almost every other bit of software I have that needs such instructions either includes them or includes a link to a web page with full instructions.
Thanks for your suggestion. It will be done in our next patch/release/whatever

Well, actually we hope our plugin system can solve some problems with template upgrade :( Also when we follow your previous advice it will solve the second problem. Yes, we do know what parts should be improved and we try to do this. Unfortunately sometimes we can not complete everything in terms in this case some parts are missed :(

yes, you are right i also use like 5 of them, but being able to choose which plungins to install in the setup process would be quite helpful (for some)...

As I've said elsewhere, the problem isn't reading it so much as FINDING it to read.

Note: In your screenshot, the latest version listed as available for download is titled RC2. That's also what I see when I go to the downloads page this morning.

Hey guys-
I have 2.2RC and have been diligently installing every single fix in these forums over the past month or two. I have also downloaded several plug-ins, and my directory is starting to run great. I have also made a bunch of design modifications to the site (moving things where I want them etc etc).
So here's my question:
If I download and install the 2.2.00 upgrade/patch... will I lose all my plugins? (Do I have to re-download and install them all?) Will my template customizations be lost? As part of the upgrade, do I have to re-download the template too and start design work all over?
I'm sorry if these are stupid questions. I am relatively new to esyndicat and have never upgraded/used patches before.
Thanks for any/all advice.
Also... I know that I need to backup my database. I have never done a cronjob before and have no idea what to do. Can someone help me figure out how to back everything up? I'm using cpanel.

Hi Swabie2424
You can reupload just 2.2 php files and run sql upgrade. Your template will work on our 2.2.00 version. We did not so many changes in our 2.2.00 version templates and most of them were related to javascript validation.
About your full backup. There is a special tool in your cPanel to generate a full backup. Please use it.
