eSynd Customization

I have a problem. I have a links site (not eSynd) that is heavily customized. My dev is balking at migrating it to a new eSyndiCat Pro license. Is he correct? Are there brave eSyndiCat devs out there that can do it?

Here are some of his comments:

What you are requesting is almost impossible to do under eSynd.
Also it will be impossible to upgrade to newer eSynd versions...
You just basically want to switch from LinksCaffe to something similar... Maybe even harder to customise.
I think developing such site over esynd is going to be a pain.
Sample: user login (not just editor login) on site is probably impossible.

I have looked your site, and I think thet it looks not like directory.
We may migrate your site content into eSyndiCat script but how you imagine it.
Please explain me your idea or show it at images.
