Hello all, I have taken the suggestion of manually adding the meta tag, and can see it in the source on the home page just fine, and still Google can not verify. I Think this is a Google issue..

Google meta tag verification is currently broken on the big G side.

Default Google Site Verification...

Hi Group

As a practicing SEO tech I just wanted to say that your Google tools are great.

I had originally verified my directory with a metatag in the header.tpl page but then saw the Google tools.

Switched the tag to the plug-in without a hiccup on Google. Considering Google has been experiencing some major issues with it's webmasters tools for a couple of months now, that says a lot.

The sitemap generator seems to be functioning perfectly as well in conjunction with the MOD-rewrite in htaccess. All the aphabetized pages are listing.

I'm new to directories but know a good thing when I see it. My directory has a ways to go before it will be accepting submissions but It's been a lot of fun modiying it. The CSS is pretty complex but
I've managed to make some changs to it as well.

Keep up the great work guys.

It does not work like that.
And if you give to check the html file gives me 404 error

Re edit.

It appears that the problem was to google code if meta tag. But now it works

Just to add to my previous post...
The Google analytics plugin works perfectly as well.
Entered the code yesterday and it's reporting today without a hitch.

Once again, great job guys!

I just wanted to add: I have not changed a thing on my directory and 2 days later, the Google Sitemap Verification now works fine.

Thanks!

Did you put in the whole code ie. <meta name="google-site-verification" content= etc ,or just the actual code (I use a program for joomla , and just input the actual code) ?
Thanks

AFAIK, it's possible to verify site with one file. You can get a file from google instead of meta tag and just upload it to root folder. It's much easier.
