Hello Simon
I see that people are still asking about importing categories and links into eSyndiCat. My case study chapter 8 tells how I got this to work BUT I don't feel I should make it public unless you or someone 'official' has given the ok. - I suppose I could, after all the forums are for anyone to offer advice, but I'd be happier with an ok. I can't attach it as a message attachment as the file is too big. So I've uploaded it to my 'generic-stuff' site. http://www.tmbservices.com/eSyndiCat-intro.html [ oops the pdf has gone missing from the link ... try http://www.tmbservices.com/support-f...-casestudy.pdf ] Last edited by Mark Brookes; 07-31-2006 at 11:02 AM. |

Hi Mark,
Wow, 53 pages.. I need some time to read it completely Btw, new things are coming in our next version.CSV convertor, convertors from other script are already built in as modules. I will prepare a list of things that could be changed a bit in your case study. Besides, I'm going to analyze it to make the script even more convenient.

Hello Simon,
Thanks for your reply. Quote:
![]() 53 pages ... Yeah, if it were a cooking bokk, it would not be the type that goes: "now make macaroni cheese", but instead "start by buying macaroni, and cheese" Quote:
Well if the new version comes pre packed with a "how to get started" guide that would be wonderful meanwhile if I read the forums right new people are still finding difficulty. So how about me posting a link in a public forum - I can emphasise that it is not-official, so you could have "plausable deniability" ![]() |

Hello Simon ...
I have been learning lots during the week and there are several extra bits I need to add as troubleshooting tips. However, Have you had a chance to look over what is there already? I am assuming that you dont want to approve every addition or change (after all people post to the forums helping others with their own experiences without the post being 'approved'. Nevertheless - can I go ahead and offer my version of documentation to "the public". regards Mark |

Hello Simon,
I seem to be caught in "waiting for approval". One reason to approach documentation in my 'case study' fashion was to not require approval because it would be documentation assembled by me & other users sharing what we've learned. I know my documents are not comprehensive, and there are areas of the program that I havn't even begun to use and maybe I have not underrstood things properly myself, but they do bring together one newbies' experience all in one place where other newbies might find it helpful. Until I can let people see them we wont know if new users find them any help at all. And others won't have the opportunity to help fill out the blanks Unless we announce the existance of the pdf files in the public forums they do no one any good. * Would you please find out if "you-all" at eSyndiCat would like to use these files - and if so how you would like to make them available to view & continue to update * or please let me know that in some way they don't fit into eSyndiCat plans - in which case I would stop the effort. note: for the time being I have the opportunity to make notes/documentation as I go along, but I can't guarantee that I would ever achieve comprehensive documentation - However, MAYBE other users will do so (?) |
