Hello SirOwen,
No, there is no limits. If you have more then 40 000 entries, the script splits them to sitemap[1,2,3...n].xml files and creates one sitemap_index.xml file accordingly Google sitemap documentation. Not so long time ago I have successfully tested it on directory with more then 3 000 000 entries.
