hi,
my directories are currently showing up terrific on SE. i was wondering if anyone has any experience with moving the directory to a new host, and how the migration affects SEO, that is - what are the consequences to migrating the directory to a new host, or even a new server box within the host that has a new IP. thanks. yoav |

Upload script onto new site do basic install procedure set so you have new site operational then upload backup of previous host after switching DNS/ backup using esyndicat internal and phpmyadmin just to be safe.
Read these, should set you right. http://www.esyndicat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17388 http://www.esyndicat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15170 http://www.esyndicat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13951 You most likely need to run this after backup upload in manage database UPDATE `v2204_categories` SET `id` = '0' WHERE `title` = 'ROOT' change version to specific version you are running. Have your license key at hand to. Oh to be safe do a backup of new install before uploading phpmyadmin backup cut the headers out of it and add them to the backup of myphpadmin from previous host. If you have changed the admin folder name previously reverse back to admin, before you start. (Just to rule out anything going wrong - from experience)

Hamlaza,
There are several ways of doing a migration, the easiest is if you are using cPanel. If you are. I can do a complete migration in less than 1 hour. That includes, emails, directories and databases.

Mark Fail, i am curious as to what type of migration you did. I am planning on moving it from a free host where my site sits on a server in Amsterdam To a Paid host in Israel....
My Directory currently is not only the first result for various keywords but also google generate sitelinks for the directory and i am afraid to loose all of the SEO work i have done... |

Migration of server from one place to another does not have any huge impact on the ranking of a website but still it does have some impact regarding the issue of geo tag. But if you can continue this thing for a long time, you will be able to overcome this issue without facing any major hassle.
